You should place a tooth that gets knocked out back into its socket quickly so the tissue can grow back around the tooth. Call us immediately if your tooth has been knocked out. Preserve the tooth in a cup of saliva (or milk, if necessary). Do not touch the root, and get to your dentist immediately.

Fillings and crowns usually fall out because the underlying tooth has decayed. Preserve the crown in a safe, cool place, and see your dentist promptly. We will check for decay and reattach the crown or refill the tooth when possible.

Teeth can sometimes break quite easily. If the crack reaches the root of the tooth, pain can be severe. If part of your tooth has broken off, rinse the tooth piece in warm water, and call us as soon as possible.

If the tooth comes out of the socket, root canal surgery may be required. If it is only dislodged or loose, a dentist can usually save it. Call us to make an appointment immediately, and in the meantime, use a cold compress and over-the-counter medication to relieve pain.
